In Azerbaijan, Leyla Yunus' advocates state sharp deterioration in her health due to malnutrition

In Azerbaijan, the health of Leyla Yunus, who is kept in Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1, has sharply deteriorated. Because of chronic malnutrition, she has an aggravation of her diabetes, said her advocates.

According to Elchin Gambarov, one of them, Leyla's has deteriorated sharply in recent days. "She has serious problems with her liver, a sharp blood tension drop and a breakdown, and, as a result of chronic malnutrition, an aggravation of diabetes. Since her arrest, Leyla Yunus lost 10 kilos of body weight," Gambarov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The advocate believes that in the SIZO conditions Leyla Yunus cannot receive the duly qualified medical care. They took her assays for medical examinations, but results are not known yet, said Gambarov.

In his turn, Ramiz Mamedov, another Leyla's advocate, has sent an official request to the SIZO asking to provide information about the examination results of the assays. However, according to the lawyer, SIZO bosses "refused to register the request," which is "a direct violation of the law."

On October 24, the Women Human Rights Defenders' International Coalition (WHRDIC) nominated Leyla Yunus for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize.
