Rallies of supporters and opponents of treaty with Russia passed in Sukhumi without incidents
Today, the leaders of Russia and Abkhazia have signed a treaty on alliance and strategic partnership of the two states. Under the treaty, in 2015 Russia will donate 5 billion roubles to Abkhazia, said Vladimir Putin.
Sukhumi hosted rallies of supporters and opponents of the treaty. They were peaceful and not populous, Inal Khashig, the editor-in-chief of the "Chegemskaya Pravda", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Each was no more that 500 strong," said Khashig.
According to his story, the rallies lasted for one and a half hours and ended at about 2:00 p.m.
"They were about 500-600 meters away from each other: one was under the slogan of strengthening ties with Russia; the other reproached the authorities of being too hasty to sign the treaty. There were no contacts of the two rallies. Now, there are no mass actions in the city," said Khashig.
