Baku hosts action demanding release of Askerov and Guliev detained in NKR

Today, activists of the Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) have marched through the streets of Baku aiming to attract international attention to the detention and trial of Dilgam Askerov and Shakhbaz Guliev, citizens of Azerbaijan, in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 10, the press service of the NKR's Defence Army announced detention of several Azerbaijani servicemen at "an attempt of a sabotage-reconnaissance penetration from the Azerbaijani side." On July 15, it was reported that a criminal case was opened against the detainees Guliev and Askerov for illegal crossing the border; they were taken into custody.

The official Baku treats Guliev and Askerov as hostages.

"We've conducted an action aiming to draw attention to the indifference of the UN and other international organizations to the fate of our compatriots taken as hostages. The international community should not remain indifferent to the fate of people who are prosecuted for visiting their homes," Akif Nagi, the head of the KLO, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The police did not allow the protesters to approach the building of the UN representative office; however, their delegates could deliver the petition.
