Russian SC upholds verdict to Orkhan Zeinalov for murdering Muscovite Yegor Scherbakov

The Russia's Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the sentence of the Moscow City Court (MCC) passed for the murder of Yegor Scherbakov, a resident of the Moscow district of Biryulyovo. Thus, the panel of judges on criminal cases of the SC has upheld the conviction of a native of Azerbaijan Orkhan Zeinalov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 28 the MCC sentenced Orkhan Zeinalov to 17 years in a high security colony. The court recognized Orkhan Zeinalov guilty of stabbing Yegor Scherbakov, 25, during a brawl at night on October 10, 2013, after which the latter died. The defence of Orkhan Zeinalov announced its intention to appeal against the verdict.

The murder of Yegor Scherbakov caused mass riots, during which residents of Biryulyovo demanded to investigate the crime and to eliminate the local vegetable storage, which employed mostly migrants.

Today, a panel of three judges took 25 minutes to uphold the verdict of the MCC and completely reject the defence's complaints, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Abasmersa Abdullaev, an advocate of Orkhan Zeinalov, told reporters after consideration by the SC of the complaint filed against the MCC's verdict that his client refused to plead guilty, but does not want to sue further and has no intention to address any other judicial instances.
