The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that athletes from countries of Southern Caucasus and North-Caucasian regions of Russia took part in almost all events of the 2012 London Summer Olympics. 80 athletes from the Caucasus fought for medals in boxing, taekwondo, judo and wrestling; and 20 athletes claimed for medals in weightlifting.

After the 1/8-finale boxing fight at the London Olympics, the victory was initially awarded to the Dagestani Magomed Abdulkhamidov, a member of the national team of Azerbaijan.
