UFSIN denied nutrition and medical care problems in Ingush SIZO

SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1 of Ingushetia, where inmates are on hunger strike, has no problems with health care and no ban to receive foodstuffs from relatives, which were the points of the complaint declared by inmates to the members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC), who visited the SIZO, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the UFSIN (the Republic's Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service).

According to Ismail Ismailov, the UFSIN deputy head on human rights, medical services are provided, and foodstuffs are received in accordance with the applicable legislation.

"In accordance with the order of the Russia's Ministry of Justice, the reception of perishable foodstuffs, as well as those in need of heat treatment, addressed to suspects or defendants is forbidden," said Ismail Ismailov. "All foodstuffs are accepted in accordance with an approved list."

He said that he personally talked to inmates. "They say that they have normal three meals a day without the need for home foodstuffs," he said.

As for the inmates' complaints about insufficient medical care, as he said, there are difficulties. "Problems arose after we cut the staff of SIZO health workers," said Ismailov; however, as he emphasized, inmates receive the needed care on the everyday basis.

Let us remind you that according to rights defender Magomed Mutsolgov, the POC will make a repeated examination of SIZO No. 1 in the coming days.
