Dagestani SC leaves Tarki leaders under home arrest

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has upheld the decision of the Kirov District Court of Makhachkala about the home arrest of Magomedamina Magomedov and Zalimkhan Valiev, the leaders of community councils of the settlements of Tarki and Kyakhulay. The freedom restriction measure will be valid until January 24, 2015.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomedamin Magomedov and Zalimkhan Valiev were arrested on May 18 and accused of unlawful distribution, under illegal contracts, of land plots in the location of Karaman (Article 330 of "arbitrariness" of the Russian Criminal Code).

According to Gamzat Khangishiev, a representative of the public of Karaman, the hunger strike held by residents of Tarki villages, who demand to restore the Tarki District and stop prosecuting community leaders, continues.

"The condition of hunger-strikers is satisfactory. Yesterday, they were visited by employees of the Investigating Department of the MIA of Dagestan; they were interested in the constructions erected in Karaman. Within the criminal case of arbitrariness they figured out who owns the new structures. They were told that they are the property of the community, which will allocate housing there to low income families from Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent," said Khangishiev.
