AI draws attention of London townspeople to fate of ecologist Vitishko

An action in support of political prisoners, including the ecologist from the Krasnodar Territory Evgeny Vitishko, was held in London by the human rights organization Amnesty International (AI). On December 5, Vitishko got in touch with his colleague Evgenia Chirikova and reported that he feels good.

The action was held at the Waterloo train station in London on December 5. To attract Londoners to the problem of political prisoners, the AI installed special placards with portraits of political prisoners; Vitishko was in one of them.

Maria Sereda, an AI coordinator, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that a branch of the AI operates in London and organizes actions in support of political prisoners.

In the situation with Vitishko, the support of the West is mandatory, said Vladimir Kimaev, a member of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch). Without such support, in his opinion, Russian authorities could neglect Vitishko's problems.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has stood up not only for Vitishko, but also for the EcoWatch as a whole, where Evgeny is a member.

Vitishko was also supported by the Association of Environmental Journalists of the Union of Russian Journalists, the Russian Green Cross, the Socio-Ecological Union, the Wildlife Protection Centre, the Ecological Human Rights Centre "Bellona", the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization (ANO) "Green Don" (Novocherkassk) and the Territorial Public Ecological Organization "Plotina" (Krasnoyarsk).
