Chechen residents report strengthened inspections after militants' attack on Grozny

After the attack of members of the armed underground on Grozny, policemen are thoroughly examining all the cars on roads of Chechnya, local residents report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on December 4 militants attacked policemen in Grozny. According to latest reports, the fight resulted in 11 killed members of the armed underground and 14 lost power agents; other 36 law enforcers were wounded.

Rumours circulate in Grozny about small groups of militants scattered across the Chechen capital, said a local resident Toita B. She fears a start of large-scale cleansings and persecution of dissenters.

According to another resident of Grozny named Said, at the night of the attack some policemen left the city. He added that on the night of the attack there was a serious panic among policemen.

A local law enforcer said that in the context of December 4 events law enforcement bodies of the republic are working in the emergency mode. Strategic facilities, office buildings and institutions are under protection, the control on the roads has been strengthened.

A police officer confirmed that they really received information about militants hiding in Grozny.
