Hunger strike in Karaman stopped
The December 7 extended meeting of activists of the Dagestani villages of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent decided to stop the hunger strike in Karaman. The participants of the meeting are going to move on to other forms of peaceful protests, one of the locals told the correspondent today.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the hunger strike in Karaman was holding by Tarki villagers from November 10; they demanded to restore the Tarki District and include the territory of Karaman and Mount Tarki-Tau into it and held their action by shifts, replacing each other.
"The action was stopped, because the authorities gave no reaction to our demands. Only law enforcers came to meet the protesters. In the end, people realized that the authorities didn't care; thus, why should they waste their health here," Gamzat Khangishiev, who is representing citizens of Karaman, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, part of the activists "had been earlier against the hunger strike; now we listen to them and decided to switch over to other forms of peaceful protest."
So far, the Tarki nationals have not yet decided about the particular forms of protest.
