Georgia holds protest against police's illegal actions

On December 8, in the city of Akhalkalaki, located in Southern Georgia, a protest action against illegal actions of the police was held in front of the municipality council. The protesters said that law enforcers had violated the law by beating up several young men.

The action was attended by dozens of people, including the parents of the beaten young people, but their exact number is not specified. Several young men, who, according to their version, also had been beaten up by policemen, were present at the action.

In particular, a young man, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that on December 3 policemen took away some 4-5 young men to the city of Akhaltsikhe, and set them free only early in the morning on December 4.

"On the charge of a theft we were taken to Akhaltsikhe. I have nothing to do with this family; and I'm not a friend of their son. They took us their as suspects, beat us up, and then, realizing that we were innocent, released us," said one of the protesters.
