Armenian Yazidis demand from Parliament to recognize events in Iraq as genocide
Today, an action of the members of the Yazidi community was held in front of the Armenian Parliament, who demanded from the MPs to recognize the attacks on Yazidis in Iraq as an act of genocide. About ten members of the Yazidi community of Armenia handed over a letter with their demands to the parliamentary factions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Yazidis in Iraq are regularly attacked by radical groups; and in July and August, the number of such attacks increased significantly. Actions demanding to help Yazidis of Iraq were repeatedly held in Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Georgia.
The organizers of the today's action in Yerevan have offered the Armenian MPs either to make a statement about the events in Iraq, or to pass a relevant law to this end.
The day of December 9 was chosen not by chance: on this day in 1948 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the prevention of the crime of genocide and punishment for it, said the organizers.
