Law enforcers conduct checks in Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny
Chechen law enforcers have conducted passport checks in the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny. The republic has stepped up security measures after the militants' attack on Grozny on December 4 and on the eve of the New Year holidays, the spokesman of the Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya explained.
On the night of December 4 militants attacked policemen in Grozny. The Chechen capital was put under the counterterrorist operation regime. Most of the attackers took refuge in the House of Press, and some of them – in School No. 20; both buildings were blocked. According to latest reports, the fight resulted in 11 killed members of the armed underground and 14 lost power agents; other 36 law enforcers were wounded.
"In the morning on December 8, armed power agents entered the residential area. They visited household after household and checked documents. They were especially interested in young people and the presence of any strangers. They completely blocked the highway that passes near our settlement; and lifted the cordon only after they completely checked everything," a resident of the settlement of Karpinskiy Kurgan named Isa told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Locals note that fighters of one of the special units of the Chechen MIA are involved in the checks.
"We've got a special regiment named after Kadyrov deployed close to here; so, they've probably decided to conduct a cleansing just to be on the safe side. They also say that the militants, who were here on December 4, said in their video that in the Staropromyslovskiy District they have hundreds of their mates; therefore, the power agents' actions are understandable; although, on the other hand, such checks are giving rise to pretty negative feelings. Nobody will like, when heavily armed policemen visit your home, demand documents or ask questions," said a resident of Grozny named Said-Emin.
So far, there is no information about any detainees in the course of the passport checks in the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny.
