Militants, who have been killed today in Nalchik, were plotting a terror act in the territory of Kabardino-Balkarian Department of the Border Guard Service. This was reported by the operational headquarters of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, starting from 7:45 a.m. till 10:40 a.m. Moscow time, counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was in force in Nalchik in the area adjacent to the Border Guard Service Department of the Russian FSB. As a result of the special operation, four suspected militants were killed and fire broke out in a high-rise building, which was later extinguished. No law enforcers and civilians suffered.
According to the NAC, the preparation of the terror act in the territory is proved by an improvised explosive device (IED) with striking elements, with power of three kilograms of TNT equivalent found in an apartment. One more IED detonated during the firefight.
The militants were members of the "so-called central sector of the Vilayat of Kabarda, Balkaria, and Karachai", and they "were actively collecting information about agents of the FSB and staff members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)," the NAC reports.
"They intentionally rented an apartment in the vicinity of the Kabardino-Balkarian Department of the Border Guard Service in order to conduct reconnaissance of the object for further commitment of the terror act," states the report of the operational headquarters of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).
