KBR resident convicted for financing militants
A court in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has sentenced A. Djappuev, a resident of the city of Tyrnyauz to 3.5 years of imprisonment on charges of aiding and financing militants.
According to the republic's prosecutor's office, in early October 2013, Djappuev "joined the illegal armed formation (IAF) under command of V. M. Eneev" and provided militants with financial and other help.
"Thus, Djappuev fulfilled the orders of the IAF head and delivered flash memory sticks to different persons (it is a common practice among North-Caucasian militants to extort money 'for jihad' by means of sending threatening messages on electronic carriers, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), as well as in October 2013 he gave 26,000 roubles to Eneev," says the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the KBR.
The court has sentenced him to 3.5 years in a general security colony with subsequent freedom restriction for 1.5 years.
