European Parliament urges Russia to recall alliance treaty with Abkhazia
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling on Russia to recall the "alliance and strategic partnership treaty" signed with the authorities of Abkhazia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 24, in Sochi, presidents of Russia and Abkhazia, Vladimir Putin and Raul Khajimba signed the above treaty that assumes increased Russian-Abkhaz cooperation in various areas, especially in the areas of security and economy.
"The European Parliament condemns the so-called 'alliance and strategic partnership treaty' signed by Abkhazia and Russia as a step towards a complete annexation of Abkhazia, and calls on Russia to recall it," says the resolution posted on the website of the European Parliament.
At the same time, the resolution states a support to the efforts of the Government of Georgia to normalize the relations with Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia has treated the Russian-Abkhaz treaty as a threat of Georgian-Russian relations and circulated an appeal to the international community to assess the actions of the Russian government, treating them as aggressive.
