Authorities of Grozny promise to open House of Press by December 25
The House of Press in the Chechen capital, damaged in the course of the militants' attack on Grozny, will be fully restored by December 25. The repairs of School No. 20 and pavilions of the "Berkat" Shopping Centre are near completion, said the Grozny Mayoralty.
"The solemn opening of the House of Press after reconstruction has been already scheduled for December 25," a source from the Mayoralty told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, noting that initially it was planned to restore the building by the New Year.
The repair and restoration works are carried out in the House of Press around the clock with involvement of over 800 people.
As reported by local entrepreneurs, the owners of the stores burnt down at the "Berkat" have received the cash compensations of 300,000 roubles each, as promised earlier by the authorities of Chechnya. However, as they assert, this money is not enough to cover the losses.
After the events of December 4, the editorial offices of the Chechen mass media, which had been located in the House of Press, were temporarily relocated to the building of the House of Radio in Grozny. Pupils of School 20 are temporarily studying in other educational institutions.
