ICRF confirms death of two civilians during militants' attack on Grozny
The attack of members of the armed underground on Grozny resulted in the death of two civilians, not one, as stated earlier, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has stated today.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on the night of December 4 militants attacked policemen in Grozny. The Chechen capital was put under the counterterrorist operation regime. Most of the attackers took refuge in the House of Press, and some of them – in School No. 20; both buildings were blocked. According to latest reports, the fight resulted in 11 killed members of the armed underground, 14 lost power agents and one civilian; other 36 law enforcers were wounded.
It became known today that an operative meeting was held in Sochi, where the head of the ICRF Alexander Bastrykin received a report on the outcome of the work of the interdepartmental task force, which is coordinating the investigation of terror acts and other high-profile crimes committed in Northern Caucasus. The report covered, in particular, the militants' attack on Grozny on December 4.
According to investigators, prior to hide in the House of Press and one of the schools, attackers delivered fire from firearms and grenade launchers at law enforcement outfits, civilians, houses and cars.
As a result of the militants' attack 14 policemen and two civilians were killed, says the today's statement posted on the website of the ICRF.
So far, there is no information from investigators about the second civil casualty.
Besides, the damage to property caused by the attack has been calculated – over 70 million roubles, the ICRF reports.
