Sochi: Alexander Valov appeals against his arrest

Alexander Valov, the owner of the website "BlogSochi", has filed a complaint against the decision of the magistrate judge, under which he had served five days in jail. The consideration of the complaint is scheduled for December 24.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 19, 2013, the Tsentralny District Court of Sochi found Alexander Valov guilty of violating the order of organizing and holding rallies and punished him by 50 hours of mandatory works. On December 12, 2014, the magistrate judge of the judicial precinct No. 104 of the Tsentralny District of Sochi ruled to make Valov administratively responsible under Article 20.25, Part 4, of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences (malicious evasion of mandatory works) and punished him with administrative arrest for 5 days. Valov served the arrest and was released on December 17.

Alexander Valov and his advocate Alexander Popkov have appealed against the ruling of the magistrate court. Their complaint, a copy of which is at the disposal of the "Caucasian Knot", says that during the trial neither Valov, nor his advocate were given an opportunity to exercise the defence.
