First presidential contenders registered in Chechnya
The first two candidates for the post of Chechen president submitted documents to the Chechen Central Election Commission on May 25. The first registered contender for the presidential post in Chechnya in the early presidential election set for August 29 is Khalid Tagirov, a temporarily jobless resident of Grozny. Mr Tagirov has three certificates of higher education (economic, juridical, and technical), he has never occupied executive positions in the republic, the election commission reported.
Besides, for the first time in the history of presidential elections in Chechnya, a woman decided to take part in the race. Her name is Mariat Gorchkhanova. She is a department head of the Urus-Martan town administration.
Now the candidates have either to deposit 4,500 thousand rubles with the election commission or to collect 6,000 signatures of voters in their support.
