Advocate complains to court about custody conditions of resident of Derbent at Nalchik SIZO

The defence of Rustam Gabibov, a resident of Dagestan, accused of a murder, has filed a complaint about non-provision of adequate medical care to him at SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) of Nalchik, said the advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of Derbent Gamlet Kelbisov and Rustam Gabibov were detained on December 26, 2014. They are accused of involvement in a murder committed in Moscow in 2010. From the moment of their detention until February 20 this year, their advocates and relatives could not establish their whereabouts. Then, the detainees told their advocates that they had been tortured. The advocates also complained about non-admission to their clients.

Rustam Gabibov, who is suffering from hepatitis C since 2007, does not receive the adequate medical care at the SIZO-1 of Nalchik. On July 13, a complaint was submitted to the Court of Essentuki about the inaction of the investigator and the boss of SIZO-1. The date of consideration thereof has not yet been appointed, said Sapiyat Magomedova, who is defending Gabibov.

According to her story, she fears that "in the absence of duly qualified treatment, Gabibov's disease may aggravate and lead to his death."

The answer of the boss of the Federal Governmental Institution (known as FKU) SIZO-1 of April 6 says that Gabibov will receive treatment in his custody; and on June 11, the boss refused to expose Gabibov to medical examination.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
