Over 1500 artillerists start exercising in Northern Caucasus and South Ossetia

About 300 units of missile and artillery weapons are involved in the exercise, which started on military ranges in Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan and North Ossetia, and on a military base in South Ossetia, said the press service of the Southern Military District (SMD).

In total, over 1500 artillerists take part in the field training.

Also today, the fighting ships of the Caspian Flotilla "Grad Sviyazhsk", "Uglich" and "Velikiy Ustyug" began their exercises, during which they will prepare for the international contest "Caspian Sea Cup-2015". In particular, they will practice gunnery, the RIA "Novosti" reports quoting the press service of the SMD.

The above international contest "Caspian Sea Cup-2015" will be held for the first time among the warship crews of Caspian states. It will take place in August on specially-equipped marine ranges.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the last major artillery exercises were held at military ranges of Dagestan, Chechnya, North Ossetia, Stavropol Territory and South Ossetia in April this year. In the course of the exercises, servicemen mastered interaction with motorized infantry and tank units, as well as with air defence and air force units, as parts of an inter-arm combat grouping.
