In Gudermes, shops with Islamic goods inspected

On September 17, in Gudermes, law enforcers made raids to inspect retail points and shops with Islamic products within the framework of verification of compliance with the federal law on counteracting extremism. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.

"In several shops and retail points, law enforcers found and confiscated books and pamphlets included in the federal list of banned literature, as well as video and audio cassettes with records of an extremist nature. The owners of retail points and shops, where banned materials are found, will be brought to administrative responsibility," noted the official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.

The problem is in the fact that it is not clear which publications of books are allowed for sale and which are prohibited. This was told by owners and sellers from the shops with Islamic goods in Gudermes interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Just on the other day, the leader of the republic, the parliament, and, as they say, 'progressive community' condemned the actions of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which recognized as extremist a book with statements from the Koran. However, at the same time, they removed from our shops with Islamic goods the Islamic literature based on the Koran. What should we think of that? I believe no double standards may be accepted in religious issues," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Aslan, a member of one of the Chechen NGOs.
