Azerbaijan extradites Russian citizen to Saint Petersburg

In Baku, Akhmedkhan Ziyadkhanov, a resident of Saint Petersburg, was detained while he was trying to fly to Turkey for further travelling to Syria with the intention to join the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized a terrorist organization. This was reported by the Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan.

According to the Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan, Akhmedkhan Ziyadkhanov was detained "in the course of operational and search activities".

After the legal procedures are completed, Akhmedkhan Ziyadkhanov will be extradited to Russia, the "Trend" reports.

Earlier, in Russia, Akhmedkhan Ziyadkhanov had served his sentence to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment for robbery. After his release, he "got in touch with members of a radical religious grouping and intended to travel through the territories of Azerbaijan and Turkey to join the terrorist organization IS," the portal "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" reports with reference to a source from the law enforcement bodies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that different sources, including the Russian FSB, have confirmed the information that in Syria, militants from Russia are fighting in the ranks of the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier, ISIL). The organization is recognized as a terrorist, and its activities are prohibited in Russia, the USA, Turkey, and other countries.
