MIA: in Syria, about 900 natives of Dagestan fight for militants
Abdurashid Magomedov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Dagestan, has reported that a lot of natives of Dagestan left for Syria with their family members and children. According to the Minister, all of the men who left for Syria are put on the federal wanted list.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November, Yuri Chaika, General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, reported on nearly 650 criminal cases instituted against Russian citizens involved in illegal armed formations (IAFs) abroad. Earlier, Evgeny Sysoev, Deputy Director of the FSB, has reported that about 7000 of Russian citizens and immigrants from the CIS countries were fighting for the "Islamic State" (IS).
"At present, about 900 Dagestanis are members of the armed underground in Syria. Being guided by the pseudo-religious ideas, some of them have deliberately taken their family members and minor children together with them to Syria. All these people are put on the federal wanted list," the RIA "News" quotes Abdurashid Magomedov as stating at the meeting with students of the Dagestani University held on December 9.
The Minister has also noted that there are serious hotbeds of tension in the territory of the republic.
"At present, the main hotbeds of tension are located in the mountainous districts of southern Dagestan, including the Shamil, Khunzakh, Gunib, Tsumada, and Tsuntin Districts," the Minister has emphasized.
