Prosecutor demands 7 years for Mirkadyrov

Imprisonment for 7 years was demanded by the prosecutor for Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov accused of espionage in favour of Armenia. The final speech of his defence is scheduled for December 23.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Rauf Mirkadyrov, an observer of the Russian-language newspaper "Zerkalo" (Mirror), refuses to plead guilty. The criminal case against him is heard by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes behind the closed doors.

Today, the final speech of Mubariz Mirili, the state prosecutor, took place. He asked the court to render a guilty verdict and sentence Mirkadyrov to 7 years in prison.

However, at the same time, as reported by Fuad Agaev the journalist's advocate, the prosecutor asked the court to apply to Mirkadyrov Article 62 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, which assumes a more lenient sentence than Article 274, initially incriminated.

Earlier, the advocate stated that investigators failed to prove the journalist's guilt.

Let us remind you that Mirkadyrov's colleagues believe that his prosecution had to do with his professional activities.
