"Yabloko" calls on Putin to clear out situation in Kenkhi

The arson of the house of Ramazan Djalaldinov, a resident of the Avar village of Kenkhi, who had raised the issue of corruption in Chechnya, should be investigated; and the pressure on his fellow villagers should be stopped, the Dagestani branch of the "Yabloko" Party says in its appeal to President Vladimir Putin.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on May 12 the house of Djalaldinov in Kenkhi was burned down; and his wife and children were evacuated to Dagestan, where he himself is hiding. According to Djalaldinov's relatives, power agents threatened to kill them.

The situation in Kenkhi has not become calmer even after on May 6 the village was visited by Ramzan Kadyrov; therefore the President of Russia should interfere, the Dagestan branch of the "Yabloko" Party has stated. In its today's appeal to Putin, the party asks to take measures to protect Kenkhi villagers.

In particular, the appeal notes that attention should be paid to the threat to local residents to burn down their houses, if they would comment on the situation, as well as to the detentions of Djalaldinov's supporters. The "Yabloko" has also expressed fear for Djalaldinov's life.

"His search conducted by Chechen power agents may become a threat to his health; and for the peoples of Dagestan and Chechnya – a threat to their interethnic accord and good neighbourly relations," the "Chernovik" quotes the text of the appeal.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
