Residents of Chechnya note price growth on the eve of Eid al-Fitr

On the eve of the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, people are actively buying food for festive treats; and shop owners have raised prices, residents of Chechnya complain.

"Prices in the marketplace and stores have went up just in the last few days. People are getting ready for Eid al-Fitr, but traders are boosting prices to profit to the utmost. Everything has become more expensive, except for bread, potatoes and onions," Liza, a resident of Chechnya, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Every time, before Eid al-Fitr, they raise prices, even though, from the viewpoint of Islam, it should be quite different. My friend studied in the Middle East; and he said that there, on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, they not only significantly drop food prices, but even give out certain foodstuffs to people free of charge, so they are not spoiled," Imran, a resident of Grozny, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
