In Yerevan, authorities and human rights defenders call on rebels for peace
Today, Ovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, has condemned the seizure of the police regiment building in Yerevan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 17, supporters of the "Constituent Parliament" seized the building of the patrol-and-security service regiment of the police in Yerevan. During the seizure of the building, one policeman was killed, and other six persons were injured.
The events that take place in the building of the patrol-and-service police regime in Yerevan seized by an armed grouping are impermissible and reprehensible. This has been announced today by Ovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister of Armenia.
The Armenian Prime Minister has noted that "it is impossible to achieve real changes by means of violence" and that "it is a dangerous and hopeless process." He has also emphasized that "the Armenian government is doing and will do everything in order to achieve a peaceful outcome" of the situation, the "Panorama.am" reports.
There is no actual alternative to negotiations with the rebels. This opinion was voiced by Armenian human rights defenders Arthur Sakunts and Zhanna Alexanyan, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
In particular, Arthur Sakunts, the head of the Vanadzor Office of the Helsinki Civil Assembly, believes that when the political issues are addressed by armed methods, no political processes are in question.
