In Yerevan, number of protesters reaches 12,000

The rally organized by supporters of the organization "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun), which members seized the building of the patrol-and-security service of the police regiment in Yerevan, turned into a march. According to the organizers of the rally, it involves about 12,000 people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the police have warned the protestors that it is prohibited to hold rallies near the police building seized by the rebels. Despite the warning, the number of the protesters in Khorenatsi Street increases.

On July 17, in Yerevan, armed members of the movement "Sasna Tsrer" (supporters of the "Constituent Parliament") seized the building of the patrol-and-security service of the police regiment. During the assault, one police officer was killed, and six other persons were injured. On July 23, the rebels released all the police officers held hostage. However, the rebels continue to hold the building. They demand to release their leader Zhirair Sefilyan and other political prisoners. Besides, they also demand the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan.

The growing number of marchers will force the authorities to meet the demands of the "Sasna Tsrer", believes Armen Martirosyan, the deputy chairman of the "Heritage" Party.

He has also added that at present, the main task of the authorities is not to force the rebels to lay down their arms, but to understand "why such patriots as members of the 'Sasna Tsrer' took up arms".
