Assistant to PFPA leader detained in Baku

Power agents made a search of the apartment of Faig Amirov, the financial director of the oppositional newspaper "Azadlyg", who is also assistant to chairman of Ali Kerimli, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). Amirov was detained by men in plain clothes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in recent days, a number of PFPA activists have been persecuted. On August 18, power agents detained Fuad Akhmedli and Gadim Bakirov; on August 12 – Masud Rzaly. The Party has linked the detentions with the criticism of the amendments to the Constitution, initiated by President Ilham Aliev.

Today, around 11:00 a.m. local time, people in civilian clothes took away Faig Amirov out of his apartment and made a search there, Gezyal Bairamly, Deputy Chair of the PFPA told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her story, the search of Amirov’s apartment was conducted by employees of the Investigating Department on Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan.

Ali Kerimli is sure that his assistant was detained for political reasons.
