Fourth PFPA activist detained in Azerbaijan within a week

On August 19, power agents detained Vasif Niftiev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), the Party leader has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 18, two PFPA activists were detained: Gadim Bakirov was accused of disobeying a policeman; and in relation of Fuad Akhmedli, a criminal case was initiated for abuse of power. Today, Faig Amirov, an assistant to the PFPA leader, was detained.

On August 19, Vasif Niftiev, another PFPA activist, was detained in the Beilyagan District of Azerbaijan, said Ali Kerimli, the Chairman of the Party.

According to his version, the authorities are trying to "crack down on the party" in order to prevent rallies against the referendum on amendments to the Constitution, under which the president will rule the country for seven rather than five years.
