Varvara Karaulova's case sent to court

The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the indictment in the case against Alexandra Ivanova (Varvara Karaulova). The case on the student's attempt to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by court is brought to the Moscow District Military Court. This was reported by Sergey Badamshin, an advocate of the defendant.

On June 4, 2015, Varvara Karaulova, a student of the Moscow State University (MSU), was detained at the Turkish-Syrian border in a group of Russian citizens, including natives of Chechnya and Dagestan, and citizens of Azerbaijan. According to investigators, the suspects intended to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia by court. The case got a wide public response, and then Varvara Karaulova changed her name to Alexandra Ivanova. During the preliminary investigation, she pleaded guilty; however, later she retracted her confession.

According to advocate Sergey Badamshin, the date for the trial on the case at the court has not been yet appointed, the "Interfax" reports today.

Alexandra Ivanova is accused of attempting to join a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the "Interfax" reports.
