ECtHR starts communication on cases of 25 Azerbaijani NGOs
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has started the communications on complaints of 25 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of Azerbaijan, who asked to recognize as illegal the rejections to register the NGOs established by them.
The notification about the start of communications was received from Strasbourg on October 31, Intigam Aliev, the head of the Legal Education Society, a rights defender and a lawyer, who acts as the applicants' official representative in 21 cases, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. In two cases, applicants will be represented at the ECtHR by the lawyer Yashar Agazade, and in one case – by lawyers Azer Nagiev and Fariz Namazly.
In the above 25 cases, complaints raise violations of applicants' rights under Articles 6 (right to a fair trial) and 11 (freedom of association) of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR). The cases, run by Intigam Aliev, further claim violations of Article 34 (right to individual complaint) of the ECHR.
The ECtHR has set the deadline of February 6, 2017, for the Government of Azerbaijan to present answers to applicants' complaints, said Intigam Aliev.
