Defence of Imam Magomednabi Magomedov claims violation of his rights at SIZO

There were no legal grounds for placement of Dagestani Imam Magomednabi Magomedov to a punishment cell of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1 of Rostov-on-Don, and the punishment was imposed on the Imam with the purpose of putting pressure on him. This was stated by advocate Dagir Khasavov.

On November 16, the Department for the Rostov Region of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) reported that the Imam sentenced for inciting terrorism was placed to a punishment cell for violation of the detention regime at the SIZO.

According to Dagir Khasavov, when he visited his client, the Imam said "he was told that he was sentenced under 'article of terrorism' and, therefore, was to be placed to a 'solitary cell', i.e. in a punishment cell." Meanwhile, "no documents were drawn up about violation of the regime committed by Magomednabi Magomedov."

Besides, according to the advocate, the Imam has told him that "he is very worried about his elderly parents." "He also has five minor children. We look forward to a fair consideration of the appeal by the Supreme Court (SC)," said the advocate.
