Court upholds withdrawal of Dagestani doctor from police prevention registration list
The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has dismissed the appeal filed by officials from the Buynaksk ROVD (District Interior Division) against the court's decision to withdraw doctor Daniyal Alkhasov from the police prevention registration list.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Daniyal Alkhasov, a doctor from the village of Erpeli, addressed the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" with a complaint about pressure from law enforcers and illegal inclusion of his name in the police prevention registration list as a follower of Salafism.
On October 31, 2016, the Buynaksk District Court found illegal the inclusion of Daniyal Alkhasov in the police prevention registration list. Officials of the Buynaksk ROVD filed an appeal to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Dagestan.
According to experts, closure of Salafi mosques, mass detentions of believers and police prevention registration can result in radicalization of the Salafi community.
