Chechen soldiers and officers to stay in Syria for several other months

Staff members of a unit of the military police from Chechnya, who perform combat missions in Syria since last December, may stay there until August. This was reported by an official of the Chechen law enforcement authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that it was originally planned that soldiers and officers sent from Chechnya to Syria in December 2016 would stay there for one month. However, then it became known that the mission of soldiers and officers was extended until this March.

The information on new extension of the mission of soldiers and officers of the military police battalion from Chechnya has been also confirmed by family members and friends of the soldiers and officers themselves.

"We expected that guys would return home in the next couple of weeks, till late February, as promised. However, now they say that they will stay there until August. It is not clear for us why such a decision was made. There are many other divisions in the republic to perform the same tasks. In addition, as far as I know, a battalion of the military police of Ingushetia is also allegedly to be sent to Syria," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Sultan, a resident of the Chechen Republic, whose son stays in Aleppo for the mission.
