ECtHR accepts claim on “Rustavi-2” case

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has indefinitely postponed the enforcement of the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) of Georgia on the case of the “Rustavi-2” TV Company, and started considering its claim.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 2, the SC’s Collegium satisfied the claim of businessman Kibar Khalvashi about transfer to him the assets of the "Rustavi-2". The TV Company appealed against this decision to the ECtHR, and on March 3, the Strasbourg Court suspended the enforcement thereof until March 8.

Today, the Chamber of the ECtHR has unanimously decided to extend its ban on the enforcement of the SC’s decision for an unlimited term, the “JamNews” reports.

The case of the “Rustavi-2” has been accepted by the ECtHR for consideration.

"Europe has saved our democracy," Nika Gvaramiya, the Director General of the TV Company, has stated at a briefing today, noting that the ECtHR’s decision has no precedents in the international law, the “News-Georgia” reports.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
