Ingush Council of Imams demands to stop pressing Tsechoev and Chumakov

The Council of Imams of Ingushetia, which unites representatives of the 18 Muslim communities, which are not under the republic’s Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM), has stated an aggravation of the situation in the region, because of the pressure on preachers Isa Tsechoev and Khamzat Chumakov.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 5, the house of Imam Isa Tsechoev in the village of Ali-Yurt was searched. On the same day, in the Sunzha District, power agents stopped three cars from the cortege of another well-known Imam Khamzat Chumakov. Relatives of the religious figure were taken away for a check, but then released. The head of the region, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, explained the searches of Tsechoev’s house by a check of passport regime.

The experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", have treated the searches in the house of Tsechoev and in the cars of Chumakov's relatives as an attempt to intimidate these authoritative religious figures.

The statement of the Council of Imams of Ingushetia notes that in 2016, Tsechoev and Chumakov survived from assassination attempts, but the attackers on them have not been found yet.
