After announcing a public event, court sends Ukrainian citizen to deportation centre

Alexander Gongadze Volny Ross, a Ukrainian citizen, who has served his sentence for organizing a wheelchair run in the town of Kamyshin, will be deported from Russia. He and his wife were fined for violating migration laws; and their deportation is expected next week despite the possibility of persecution in their homeland due to their pro-Russian position.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alexander Ross (Gongadze Volny Ross, also referred to in media as Gongadze-Ross or Gongadze) has planned to conduct a wheelchair race aiming to draw attention to the poor state of roads in Kamyshin. The event did not take place, as Ross was arrested for nine days for organizing a public event without filing a notification.

Alexander Gongadze will be deported for violating the legislation. The ruling of the Kamyshin City Court has stated that he entered Russia on October 2, 2023, but did not leave the country after 90 days.

The court ruling states that Alexander had failed to get registered with the migration authorities and failed to apply for a work permit in the Volgograd Region. However, the court disregarded the arguments that he has a wife and a son in Kamyshin.

The common-law wife of Alexander Gongadze Volny Ross was also fined for aiding illegal migration – she had let him stay in her home, the V1 outlet reports.

Valeria Trigolos, an advocate, has noted that Gongadze Volny Ross has been living in Russia for seven years and has a family here. According to her story, he is in danger if deported to Ukraine, since he has pro-Russian views and "financially assisted the Russian Armed Forces."
