On March 13-19, there were no victims of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from March 13 to March 19, 2017, no casualties or victims of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were recorded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On March 15, since midnight Moscow time, the counterterrorism operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the territories of the Nazran and Sunzha Districts of Ingushetia – in the villages of Nesterovskaya, Alkhasty, Galashki, Muzhichi, Nizhni Alkun and Chemulga located near the wooded area. The CTO regime does not cover the territory adjacent to the Sunzha Range.

On March 19, at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time, the CTO regime was introduced, in connection with a search for militants, within the administrative borders of the city of Khasavyurt, Khasavyurt District and in some sections of the territory within the dwelling settlements of Leninaul, Kalininul, Dylym, Gostala and Inchkha of the Kazbek District, and Miatli, Bavtugai and the bridge over the Yuz Bash Canal of the Kizilyurt District of Dagestan.

Explosions and terror acts

On March 17, at about 1:00 a.m. Moscow time, an unidentified man shelled the building of the Malgobek division of the Russia’s FSB Department for Ingushetia. No one was hurt; the building suffered a minor damage. At the venue, they found a tube from the grenade launcher, which was used for shelling.

Detentions

On March 15, patrolling one of the streets of Pyatigorsk, a patrol unit of the National Guard drew attention to a man carrying a bag. His behaviour seemed suspicious to power agents. The man was detained at the attempt to escape and taken to the police station. When inspecting his bag, law enforcers found a grenade launcher.

On March 17, Ayub Anaev, a resident of the Chechen capital, was arrested after ammunition for firearms, and hand grenades were confiscated from him. Anaev was detained while conducting operative measures. A criminal case was opened against him on the illegal storage of ammunition and explosives. However, he was not detained; investigators decided that the recognizance not to leave would be enough. The Oktiabrsky District Prosecutor's Office found this measure illegal, and on March 15, Anaev was taken into custody.

Kidnappings

On March 10, Apti Edaev, a resident of Urus-Martan, was taken away from the commemoration party after funeral by unidentified persons in military uniform. His relatives appealed to the police, but their kidnapping application was not taken. Three days later, Edaev was released. It is still unknown what particular structure kidnapped him, and where he was kept. No charges were presented to him; and the information on Edaev’s release appeared on March 17.
