In Saint Petersburg, LGBT activists detained at their action against Ramzan Kadyrov

In Saint Petersburg, policemen detained ten activists who during the May Day procession organized an action against harassment of gays in Chechnya and chanted the slogan "Kadyrov to The Hague!" The UN High Commissioner has demanded to protect the rights of gays in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 1, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" published the material on mass detentions and killings in Chechnya of men suspected of unconventional sexual orientation.

In Saint Petersburg, the action gathered LGBT activists, who marched in the May Day column of human rights defenders and the movement "Open Russia". Several LGBT activists fell down on the roadway, and another activist began to powder them with earth. Participants of the action wrapped rainbow flags and flags of Chechnya around their bodies, the "Fontanka" reports.

Meanwhile, the UN requires carrying out a detailed investigation into the situation around the LGBT community in Chechnya. This has been announced today by Zeid al-Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Earlier, the activists have noted that not only gays, but also heterosexual men suspected of homosexuality because of comic correspondences in social networks are also subjected to torture.
