Centre of Grozny cordoned off by law enforcers

The central part of the Chechen capital has been completely blocked for traffic, and that fact resulted in a collapse on the roads, report local residents. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has explained the enhancement of security measures in Grozny by the festivities dedicated to the Victory Day.

A part of Grozny from the People's Friendship   Square to Minutka Square is closed for traffic. "Soldiers and policemen are everywhere, as well as military vehicles. It is impossible to drive from the Press House to Minutka Squarer. All drivers have to make a big detour to go in the direction of Argun and back," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Imran, a resident of Grozny.

"Yesterday, the measures to enhance security have also been introduced. However, today, the entire centre is cordoned off. In fact, soldiers stand at all intersections, and even exits from yards of houses located in the central part of the city are also closed," said Khamzat, a resident of Grozny.

According to an official of the Chechen MIA, the security measures in Grozny were enhanced in connection with the festivities on the Victory Day and the upcoming events on the occasion of the Day of Mourning and Tribulation of the Peoples of the ChechenRepublic on May 10.
