Azerbaijani MoD explains reasons for shelling Armenian media car
Today, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijani has reported that a car with Armenian journalists in the Karabakh conflict zone was shelled by return fire and that the car itself did not bear any distinctive signs indicating the media.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of May 10, in the Karabakh conflict zone, the crew of the Armenian "Shant" TV Channel was shelled with large-calibre weapons from the Azerbaijani side. Cameraman David Atoyan was wounded, and the car was also damaged, the "Shant" TV Channel reports. The wounded journalist underwent surgery in Stepanakert.
The Azerbaijani MoD has recognized the fact of shelling of a car in the Karabakh conflict zone. Meanwhile, the MoD of Azerbaijan has stated that the fire was opened from the car at the Azerbaijani positions, and the return fire was opened at the car. The car itself, according to the Azerbaijani side, did not bear any distinctive signs of media or a civil organization, the "APA" reports.
The fired car was masked "under the camouflage colour of military vehicles of Armenia," the Azerbaijani MoD reports. Azerbaijani military officials also add that the Azerbaijani armed forces "take retaliatory measures only with respect to the military force, means and other objects of the military purpose of the enemy," the "report.az" reports.
