Azerbaijani Border Service suspects Gezyal Bairamly of smuggling

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan has reported on discovery in a bag of Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), of the money in the amount of 12,000 US dollars not indicated in a customs declaration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of May 25, Gezyal Bairamly was detained after her return from Georgia, where she received medical treatment.

At about 10:00 p.m. of May 25, Gezyal Bairamly was detained at the Shikhly border checkpoint, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan reports.

"Since Gezyal Bairamly behaved suspiciously, her hand luggage was inspected, and the money in the amount of 12,000 US dollars were found and seized," states the report.

According to the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, its Investigating Department has instituted a criminal case under Article 206.1 (smuggling).

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, has claimed "fictitious nature of the charge." "This is another repressive step against our party," Ali Kerimli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
