Journalist Sevinj Vagifgizi detained in Baku

Sevinj Vagifgizi, a freelance journalist, was detained at the Central Office of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan, when she wanted to find out the fate of Afghan Mukhtarly, brought to Baku from Tbilisi.

Earlier, on May 29, Afghan Mukhtarly, an Azerbaijani oppositional journalist, disappeared in Tbilisi. Today he called Nemat Kerimli, an advocate, and said that he was taken to Baku.

Tonight, journalists and activists, who wanted to know about Mukhtarly's fate, began gathering near the SBS building in Baku. Policemen demanded them to disperse. Sevinj Vagifgizi reminded them that she was fulfilling her professional duties; after which she was detained, said Samir Kazymly, the coordinator of the Alliance for the Defence of Political Freedoms.

According to her story, along with Sevinj Vagifgizi, her bridegroom Masud Asker, an activist of the "Nida" Movement, was also detained.
