Political analysts treat new war for Nagorno-Karabakh as inevitable

The parties to the Karabakh conflict are not ready to reach compromise, and while negotiators from the OSCE Minsk Group are inactive, a new war is almost inevitable. This opinion was voiced by Russian and Azerbaijani political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

In Baku, military experts agree that the process of gradual settlement liberation of the Azerbaijani regions around Nagorno-Karabakh can begin to defuse the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone.

Uzeir Djafarov, the leader of the NGO "Military Journalists", has noted that "for more than 20 years, Azerbaijan has been waiting for liberation of the occupied territories by peaceful means, but this has not still happened," and "the Azerbaijan's limit of patience is running low."

According to Eldar Namazov, the former assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for political issues (1993-1999) and the current leader of the NGO "Centre for Strategic Studies", the Armenian side does not demonstrate its willingness for compromise.

The probability of escalation is high, but the actions of the parties to the conflict will not result in resumption of a large-scale war, believes political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan, the director of the Caucasus Institute.

He has noted that escalations in the Karabakh conflict zone occur periodically and are of a local nature.

According to Pavel Felgenhauer, an observer of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", the parties to the conflict "do not even make the slightest attempt to find a political solution," but they are actively increasing the volume of weapons. He believes that Iran, Israel, Georgia, and Turkey could be drawn into the war for Nagorno-Karabakh.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
