Investigators conduct Mukhtarly's medical examination a month after he was beat up

Afghan Mukhtarly's medical examination, conducted today with the aim to find traces of beatings, which he announced a month ago, is a formality connected with the consideration of the journalist's case at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), said his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, it became known that the ECtHR began considering the complaint on Mukhtarly's case. His advocate Elchin Sadygov has suggested that the start of communication had affected the course of the inquiry, in particular, the decision to draw up a medical examination report, the motion for which was rejected on May 30, after the journalist was detained.

According to Mr Sadygov, the charge of resisting a border guard was brought against his client in order to explain to the court the traces of beatings on Mukhtarly's body.

As noted by Nemat Kerimli, another advocate, earlier, the defence was informed that the results of Mukhtarly's medical examination conducted on June 1, when he was placed into the SIZO (pre-trial prison), would be presented as an expert conclusion. However, now, they decided to conduct a separate examination.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
