Volunteer of Alexei Navalny's Novocherkassk office claims being attacked

On July 13, in Novocherkassk, Fyodor Laptev, a volunteer of the Rostov office of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, was attacked. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a staff member of the Alexei Navalny's office.

In July, the court recognized three supporters of Alexei Navalny in Rostov-on-Don, including Fyodor Laptev, as participants of an unsanctioned picket. On July 13, the activist went to a solo picket against the court's decision to fine him by 20,000 roubles. The court did not take into account that he was an unemployed disabled person living on a pension of 4215 roubles, noted Fyodor Laptev.

"When the volunteer was returning home and was near an entrance to his house, an unidentified man approached him and severely hit him in his stomach. The attacker warned that if Fyodor Laptev "once again came to any action then he would have problems," said the staff member of the Alexei Navalny's office.

Today, Fyodor Laptev has appealed to the hospital and the police.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
