Sochi townspeople complain about power cut-offs on New Year's eve

Only one out of ten Sochi families, who were disconnected from electricity on the eve of the New Year because of debts, managed to restore the supply with the help of the prosecutor's office.

Electricity was cut off ten private houses in Funduchnaya Street in Sochi's Bogushovka dwelling settlement in the afternoon on December 28, 2017, Svetlana Baskova, a member of the street initiative group, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on January 1.

She has added that residents immediately turned to supplying company: "It turned out that our family had an accumulated debt of 5000 roubles; therefore we were cut off... However, we had received no warnings and no bills on the eve."

"We had to stand quite a lot in a huge queue on the eve of the holiday just to receive a copy of the bill. As soon as we got it, we immediately paid it on December 29. However, the power supply was not restored either on the 29th, or the 30th, or the 31st [of December 2017]", Svetlana Baskova has complained, adding that calls to the company and hotline of the city Mayor were futile.

"In despair, on December 31, we called the hotline of the Krasnodar Territorial Prosecutor's Office, and only then, three hours before the New Year, we were telephoned from the power grids and had our supply restored," said the woman.
